Why Most youtubers lose 30%-50% of viewers within the first 30 seconds of their video starting...

Image
1.Instant title & thumbnail delivery   This might seem obvious, but when people click on a video, they want to see what they came for. The best intros give instant delivery. Ryan Trahan even recreates his thumbnail as the opening shot here... 2.Jumping into a storyline   The earlier the first storyline/challenge/point can begin the better. If you look at a typical retention curve, the best holds are during these moments, we don't need 2 minutes of build up to get there. 3.Cutting down unnecessary context    This follows on nicely from the first 2 points. The biggest mistake I see is WAY too much context. People feel the need to overexplain what's about to happen, show don't tell, where-ever possible. 4.Putting your best foot forward A lot of people are stuck in the mindset of ''saving'' the best moment. Often it works better to stack the opening of the video with the best moments. I've helped pull 300m+ views on reaction conte

Why Switching thumbnails can completely change your video's performance?

Image
1.When to switch? While CTR is great, a lot of variables can affect it. Views on the other hand are a true reflection of performance. Look at your video's typical performance… If it's underperforming, there's an issue. Your CTR also underperforming? Time for a switch. 2.How long to wait? Time shouldn't determine when you switch a thumbnail. Impressions should. Some channels get 4,000,000 impressions in 1 hour… Some get 4. Get enough impressions to fairly access the performance. And if it's underperforming, don't wait around. 3.What to change? Sometimes making the slightest adjustment works. But most of the time it won’t. If your video is underperforming because of the thumbnail… It’s normally because you got the thumbnail wrong. If you’re going to switch it, try something completely new. 4.Whether it worked.. Similar to the original, focus on views. Most look for an improvement in CTR. While this can work, what is it doing to views? If CT

What can Steve Jobs teach us about YouTube?

1.Target Customer Jobs knew Apple's target customers better than anyone. • Demographic (age, gender) • Psychographics (motivations, goals) This is no different when creating content. Understand your viewers... And you'll know exactly how to get them to click and watch. 2.Differentiation Jobs knew Apple could provide something people didn't have. Something that made them different from the competition. 720,000 hours of content is uploaded to YouTube every day. How is your video any different? Sometimes, different is better than better. 3.Specialisation Job’s priority at Apple was specialisation. Knowing what they do best and being extremely focused on it. This is the same when making content. Work out what viewers want... And what you do better than anyone else. Then focus on it. 4.Benefits vs Features Jobs knew the difference. Feature = something your product has Benefit = something your product enables Apple never focused on the features

Why Netflix make the best thumbnails on the internet?

Image
Importance of thumbnails Netflix has a dedicated team for optimising thumbnails. They realised if they don't capture a member’s attention within 90 seconds... They’d likely lose interest and move on to another activity. Netflix's research found • Thumbnails were the biggest influence on users watching content • It made up 82% of their focus while browsing Netflix • They spent 1.8 secs on each thumbnail • They look at the thumbnail first and then decide to look at additional details Testing After realising their importance, Netflix started testing different thumbnails. They were surprised by the drastic impact optimising thumbnails had. Using better thumbnails significantly increased streaming hours and engagement. Here's how they did it: 1.Emotion Emotion is very effective at getting across a lot of information and increasing engagement. They found that expressive faces (which humans are hardwired to respond to) compel people to click. •Expressive fa
