1. Bright, bright, bright This should be one of the most obvious things, but in general a brighter thumbnail is a better thumbnail. Utilise bright prime colours & ensure faces and subjects are bright and not under exposed. 2. Roughly 60-70% of mobile users use YouTube on dark mode To follow on from the first point, Thumbnails look very different against a black background. Light images pop out, while dark images can get lost in the crowd💡 3. Over the past years YouTube algorithm changed so many times, where in 2011 the longer the video that video is getting more veiws. In 2012 who uploads daily content those videos got tons of videos. After 2013 to now the YouTube algorithm is caring about only click through rate(CTR) and average view duration(AVD).    Success starts with a click. If your video wants to get 1 million views means you need to get 1 million clicks. So make the thumbnail and title much better. The better you make the title and thumbnail the highest click through rate (CTR) you will get, the higher click through rate means the higher veiws you get. So focus on how to make clickable titles and thumbnail like making thumbnails colorful and greater design.
